Nordine Injection contains Norepinephrine (4mg), a powerful sympathomimetic drug that plays a crucial role in the management of severe hypotension and shock, particularly in critical care settings. Norepinephrine acts primarily on alpha-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction—the narrowing of blood vessels. This action increases systemic vascular resistance and elevates blood pressure, helping restore circulation to vital organs when blood pressure drops dangerously low. It has a mild effect on beta-1 receptors as well, contributing to improved cardiac output in certain patients. Nordine is usually given as a continuous intravenous infusion in ICU environments, where close monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and organ function is essential. It is considered a life-saving medication during acute cardiovascular collapse and septic shock, often used in conjunction with fluid therapy and other supportive treatments. Its onset is rapid, and the dosage is titrated carefully to achieve the desired hemodynamic response. This injection must only be given under continuous medical supervision, preferably through a central venous line. It should be diluted before use and is not suitable for self-administration under any circumstances.
