Nebivolol 2.5 mg Tablet is a highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker with additional nitric oxide (NO)-mediated vasodilatory properties. This dual mechanism not only reduces heart rate and myocardial oxygen demand but also promotes vasodilation, leading to effective blood pressure control and improved arterial compliance. Compared to traditional beta-blockers, Nebivolol offers better tolerability, minimal metabolic side effects, and is less likely to cause fatigue or sexual dysfunction. The 2.5 mg dose is typically used as a starting dose in elderly patients, those with mild hypertension, or in patients with reduced kidney function who require careful dose titration. In addition to treating hypertension, Nebivolol also provides cardioprotective benefits by improving endothelial function and reducing oxidative stress.
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and bradycardia (slow heart rate). Some patients may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances or sleep-related issues. Rare but serious adverse effects include severe hypotension, worsening heart failure, or bronchospasm in susceptible individuals. Because of its cardioselectivity, respiratory side effects are less common compared to non-selective beta-blockers.
Nebivolol 2.5 mg Tablet is indicated for the management of essential hypertension in adults, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. It is also used in selected cases of stable heart failure with reduced ejection fraction as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Nebivolol 2.5 mg should be taken only under medical supervision. It is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree, cardiogenic shock, or severe liver impairment. Caution is advised in patients with asthma, COPD, diabetes, or thyroid disorders. The dose should not be stopped abruptly, as sudden discontinuation may cause rebound hypertension or worsening of angina. It is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless prescribed by a physician after risk assessment. Alcohol should be minimized as it can potentiate the blood pressure-lowering effect. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and clinical response is recommended for safe and effective therapy.
Store Nebivolol 2.5 mg Tablet in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
