Dapoflit 5 Tablet contains Dapagliflozin, a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and certain cardiovascular and renal conditions. It works by blocking SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar levels independently of insulin. Beyond glycemic control, dapagliflozin has demonstrated cardiovascular and renal protective effects, reducing hospitalization for heart failure and slowing progression of chronic kidney disease. The 5 mg dose is often used as a starting dose or in patients requiring lower exposure due to comorbidities or concomitant therapy.

About the Product

Common side effects include urinary tract infections, genital mycotic infections, increased urination, and mild dehydration. Some patients may experience dizziness, thirst, or low blood pressure, especially in combination with diuretics. Rare but serious adverse effects include diabetic ketoacidosis (even with normal blood sugar levels), Fournier’s gangrene, and acute kidney injury. Hypoglycemia risk increases when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Dapoflit 5 Tablet is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It is also used in adults with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and as part of therapy in chronic kidney disease (CKD) to reduce the risk of progression and hospitalization, as advised by a physician.

Dapoflit 5 Tablet should be taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed. It is not recommended in type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is advised in patients with hypotension, dehydration, recurrent UTIs, or impaired renal function. Adequate hydration is essential to avoid volume depletion. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use this medication only if the potential benefit justifies the risk. Regular monitoring of kidney function, blood sugar levels, and signs of infection is important during therapy. Patients should be educated on recognizing symptoms of ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fatigue, and seek immediate medical attention if they occur.

Store Dapoflit 5 Tablet in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep in the original blister pack and out of reach of children. Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the strip.
